Why are the Responsible Gaming lnformation Centres being set up?
In March 2005 the Ontario Government announced that it would introduce on-site centres in casinos to assist any patrons who may have problems with gambling. The Niagara Fallsview Casino and Casino Windsor were selected as the pilot sites for this project.
The Centres are being established as part of the Ontario Government’s ongoing strategy to reduce the risk of gambling problems. We know that some people who gamble run into problems. The Centres will address these problems through awareness programs and by linking patrons who are concerned with their gambling to services in the community.
Is there a charge for RGlC services?
RGlC services are free. Funding from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation covers the costs of these services.
Can a family member who is worried about another family member's gambling speak to Centre staff?
Yes, the RGIC can also provide information, assistance and referral to anyone who is worried about the gambling of a friend or family member.
When are the Centres open?
The RGlC will provide services on a 24-hour basis, 7 days a week.
Do the Centres provide on-site counseling?
The Centres provide brief assistance to people who may be upset or need immediate assistance. They do not provide on-going counseling, but rather act as a bridge to counseling and other services for those who request it. Ontario has an excellent, province-wide network of problem gambling treatment agencies.
Where are the Centres located?
The RGIC currently has two on-site casino locations: Niagara Fallsview Casino and Casino Windsor.
Will personal information gathered by the RGlC be confidential?
All personal information shared with Centre staff is confidential and is not made available to the casino or the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation. In some cases where it would be beneficial to the individual to share information with a family member, the casino or some other authority, Centre staff will ask the individual for specific consent to share such information.
